Read for typos. There are many resumes with typos and grammatical errors coming to coffee shop owners and managers. Remember, typos reduce your chances of getting a callback. Read and re-read your barista resume. Chances are you moved things around and cut and pasted. Additionally, you want to make sure that your resume flows and sounds professional. However, re-read from the bottom up or ask your friends or relatives to look at it with fresh eyes to ensure no errors.

Barista Training Resume Tip 2:

Add a bullet-pointed area of skills that includes important information. For example, do you have waitressing experience? Are you a home roaster? Do you have marketing or promotional experience? Do you know excel software? When you think of all the skills necessary to run a coffee shop, “extra” skills noted may help you stand out.

Bullet points make:

• Your resume easier to read
• Develops clarity
• Helps you emphasize your points

While you don’t want to throw everything in your resume, be aware that you are applying to a business with many needs. Your coffee shop manager is hiring because they need help in a variety of capacities. While your job is primarily to serve coffee and work on the espresso machine, your other work experiences and office skills may make you a very appealing employee.

Don’t submit more than two pages of your barista resume. For the most part, longer resumes will usually not be read. Your barista resume should be concise but offer relevant information about you and your job experiences. Use clear and straightforward language; avoid repeating the same thing over and over again in your barista resume. The way you formulate your resume is a good sign of how you formulate your thoughts.

Emphasize your customer service skills. Have you voted the “employee of the month” at your last job? Do you have any special training? Have you taken a CPR class? The skills, which emphasize a great customer service experience or customer service health and safety, are critical.

If you are starting your professional career and haven't had any barista experience yet, mention your volunteering, charity work, or school projects. Chances are you gained some transferable skills (team-oriented, punctual, communication skills, highly organized, etc.).

Quick note: Stay confident. Just because you have little or no barista experience doesn't make you less of a good candidate. Everyone starts somewhere. What you don't have in barista experience, you can make up elsewhere.

Barista Training Resume Tip 5:

Demonstrate your passion for coffee throughout the resume. Perhaps, you have a coffee blog, or you have visited a coffee plantation before. Could you make a note of it? Or maybe you have attended a Coffee Expo or a local coffee cupping. Then, be sure to put it down in your barista resume. Coffee shop owners love the idea of bringing on staff who are passionate about coffee and who are willing to share their passion with co-workers and customers.

Get barista training. While you might not have any barista experience, the fact that you have demonstrated the willingness to take a barista course says that you are determined to learn – Your dedication to learning all that you can makes you stand out in the crowd.
